Liz Coufal

Co-Founder & COO, GoodPolitics

Liz is passionate about social impact, beginning her career at a climate justice nonprofit before entering Austin's tech industry in 2015. Civic engagement is her joy, and she's dedicated to help break down the barriers to entry keeping young Americans from engaging in their democracy. When she's not busy with her day job or GoodPolitics, Liz is an active board member of Austin Technology Alliance and Legacy Collective, a national donor-advised giving fund.

Nathan Ryan

CEO, Blue Sky Partners 

Nathan Ryan is a serial entrepreneur, business and community leader. He is co-founder/CEO of Blue Sky Partners, focused on helping organizations put healthy, sustainable systems in place so they can scale; and co-founder/CEO of Good Politics, focused on connecting disengaged voters to the political process. He also serves on the board of directors at the LBJ Presidential Library’s Future Forum and the Austin Monitor; the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s COVID-19 Task Force to Reopen Central Texas; and on the Economic Prosperity Commission and the Ethics Review Commission for the City of Austin. Nathan lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Amanda, and dogs, Max and Rory.

Savannah L. Barker

Senior Director of Strategic Programs, Notley

Savannah is a strategist and community builder with a passion for public policy and social impact. Through her role at Notley, Savannah works with social impact organizations and nonprofits looking to scale. Savannah is also a freelance writer and journalist who writes primarily about politics, education and identity. She has been published in Quartz, PopSugar and Rantt Media, and has been interviewed by NowThis News for her work on gender in politics.

Dr. Peniel Joseph

Founder, Center for Study of Race and Democracy

Dr. Peniel E. Joseph joined the University of Texas at Austin in 2015 as Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. Prior to joining UT, Dr. Joseph was a professor at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, where he also founded the school’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy to promote research focused on issues of race and democracy. Dr. Joseph’s career focus has been on what he describes as “Black Power Studies,” which encompasses interdisciplinary fields such as Africana studies, law and society, women’s and ethnic studies, and political science.

Joseph Kopser

Founder, Grayline Group

Joseph Kopser is a serial entrepreneur and expert in energy and national security issues. Currently he serves as an Executive-in-Residence at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. In addition, he is President of Grayline after he co-founded and served as CEO of RideScout before it was acquired by Mercedes.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the CleanTX Foundation, an economic development and professional association for cleantech.

Sarah Ortiz Shields

Executive Director, Austin Tech Alliance

Sarah Ortiz Shields is a community organizer and problem solver with over 15 years of successful experience in New York City and Austin's civic and tech scenes. Sarah is currently a Delivery Manager at Nava, a public benefit corporation building simple and accessible government services, and serves as the Executive Director of Austin Tech Alliance, a nonpartisan nonprofit that advocates for civic engagement in Austin’s tech community.

Andrew Cates

Senior Partner, Salient Strategies

Andrew Cates is an accomplished political attorney, having written or contributed to two books on the subject of the Legislative & Campaign Law. He has helped start a number of ventures in the space, including Cates Legal Group - his law firm, BRIEF - a regulatory analysis firm for startups, Lobby Days - a political software startup, Capitol Intelligence - a political data startup, and Salient Strategies - his lobby/government affairs firm.
